Safari 2025

Safari 2025: What’s New, What’s Next & Why You Should Be Excited

Hello friends - it’s been a little while since my last post here on Kate on Safari, but the good news is: I’m back! And I’ve been watching the safari world closely.

2025 is shaping up to be one of the most exciting years in safari travel. New trends, new tools, and fresh ways to explore Africa’s wild spaces are opening up - and I couldn’t resist sharing them with you. Whether you’re planning your first safari or dreaming of your next one, here’s what’s changing, what’s worth watching, and why this might just be the perfect time to go.

🦁 What’s Changing in the Safari World

1. Solo travellers are on the rise
More people are booking safaris on their own, and camps are finally responding. From reduced single supplements to small-group experiences, it’s becoming easier (and more affordable) to head into the bush solo - without feeling like you’re missing out.

2. Hidden gems are stealing the spotlight
While places like Kruger and Serengeti remain iconic, travellers are craving something quieter, wilder, and less crowded. Remote parks in Zambia, Malawi, or Tanzania’s Ruaha are drawing attention for their raw beauty and intimate wildlife encounters.

3. Tech + AI are shaping planning
AI itinerary builders and hybrid planning tools are gaining popularity - but nothing beats local knowledge. Think of these tools as inspiration, then lean on trusted guides and operators to turn that draft into a true adventure.

4. Travel with purpose matters more than ever
Today’s safari-goers want their trip to leave a positive footprint. Lodges are focusing on conservation, reducing waste, and supporting communities - and travellers are asking the right questions before they book.

5. Slow, deeper travel is trending
Instead of rushing through five parks in a week, many are choosing to stay longer in one place. This not only reduces your footprint but also allows you to truly connect with the rhythm of the bush. And yes, the safari + beach combo is here to stay - imagine a week of game drives followed by a barefoot escape to the Indian Ocean.

Slow and steady is the only way to explore along the Indian Ocean.

🚙 Spotlight: Uber Safari in Nairobi

One of the buzziest stories recently? Uber Safari in Nairobi National Park. Visitors can now book short game drives through the app - a bold step that’s sparking debate.

On one hand, it’s a fun, affordable way for locals and business travellers to squeeze in a taste of the wild. On the other, some conservationists worry it might encourage “checklist tourism,” where visitors dash in for photos but miss the deeper experience.

Either way, it shows how safari is evolving - and how access to wildlife experiences is changing in our modern world.

🌍 Where to Go Now: Hidden Gems in 2025

If you’re dreaming of something different this year, here are a few destinations worth putting on your radar:

  • South Luangwa (Zambia): Famous for walking safaris, big cats, and unspoiled wilderness.

  • Ruaha (Tanzania): Huge landscapes, tiny crowds, and incredible predator sightings.

  • Malawi: Emerging as a quieter, soulful destination where lake and bush meet.

  • Bush + Beach: Combine a safari in Hluhluwe–iMfolozi, Kruger, or Serengeti with a coastal escape to Zanzibar, Mozambique, or even right here in St Lucia.

Look for different locations off the beaten track

🧭 Planning Smarter in 2025

A few tips to help your safari planning flow smoothly this year:

  • Use AI tools for draft itineraries, but always confirm with someone on the ground.

  • Travel off-peak or in shoulder seasons for fewer crowds and better rates.

  • Ask lodges about their sustainability efforts - how they support local communities, handle waste, and contribute to conservation.

  • Build in breathing space. Safaris are magical, but they’re also full of early mornings and bumpy roads. Longer stays mean you can rest, reset, and soak it all in.

Early mornings are the best time to visit a game reserve

🌿 A Personal Reflection

I often think back to my very first safari. The quiet hush of dawn, the air still cool, the world waiting. Then - a herd of elephants stepping through the morning light, the dust lifting in golden clouds around them. That moment changed me forever.

What excites me most about 2025 is the chance for more people to feel that same magic - whether on a solo adventure, a family trip, or an off-the-beaten-path journey that touches the soul.

Join the magic of a safari and seeing animals in the wild

✨ In Closing

Safari is evolving, but its heart remains the same: connection. Connection with wild spaces, with wildlife, and with ourselves.

If you’ve been waiting for the “right time” to go, I believe 2025 is it. There’s never been a better moment to choose a journey that excites you, challenges you, and gives back to the planet at the same time.

I’d love to hear from you:
